Bleaching facility and stockhouse from the paper mill Lhoëst & Weustenraad in Maastricht
|
One of the oldest industrial buildings at the Bassin (inner port from the canal Zuid-Willemsvaart) in Maastricht (NL). It was built between 1859 and 1861 and got an extra top floor in 1950. Lhoëst & Weustenraad became later the Koninklijke Nederlandse Papierfabriek that is now part of Sappi Global. Almost the complete installations for the processing of rags were constructed by Thiry Huy (B) and E.Lamort et Fils te Vitry-sur-Marne (Fr); parts of it are still there. The lock with drawbridge connects the canal with the river Maas.
It is a listed national monument: more information in Dutch
